Convention Theme: The True Love of Peace

Picture
The theme for this year's annual meeting is "The True Love of Peace" as taken from the Collect for Peace:

Almighty God, kindle, we pray, in every heart the true love of peace, and guide with your wisdom those who take counsel for the nations of the earth, that in tranquillity your dominion may increase until the earth is filled with the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.

The Bishop also calls upon the following Scriptures for reflection:  Micah 4:1-5, Psalm 85:7-13, Ephesians 2:13-18, and Matthew 5:43-48.

The logo is formed with hands of different races cradling the Trinity knot that represents the Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In its original form of vesicae pisces, it incorporates the Christian symbol of the fish.  During these tumultuous times, the Bishop added the phrases "Peace is born from relationships ~ Unity in diversity."

ADDRESSING MASKS AT DIOCESAN CONVENTION:
The Bishop sent the following message via email on September 30, regarding the wearing of masks at Diocesan Convention.
READ BISHOP'S MESSAGE HERE
Aloha,

I have been asked about masks at Diocesan Convention.

While gathered altogether in a large group in Seto Hall for the plenary session of Education Day (on Friday) and the business meeting of Convention (on Saturday) or St. Alban’s Chapel (on Friday), everyone should be masked unless speaking (or taking the Sacrament during the Convention Eucharist).  At all other times, in other spaces or gathered in smaller groups, masks are optional.

Why when County guidelines make masks optional?  First, the School’s guidelines right now makes masks optional except when singing and for all school chapels (or other large gatherings) in the gym.  We will have three large gatherings over a significant period of time.  Second, a significant number of God’s people are still concerned about being unmasked and/or being with those who are unmasked for a significant period of time. Others have personal medical concerns.  In the spirit of Paul in 1 Corinthians 8, we need to be cognizant and responsive to our siblings who are both concerned and those who are at risk.  For most of us to wear masks when gathering in large groups for a significant period of time or while singing (and making liturgical responses) generally does no harm.  Certainly, if one is unable to wear a mask for significant period of time for a medical reason, God’s people will understand.  For most of us, however, being masked is not a significant burden. We are one ‘Ohana in Christ and we can joyfully bear one another’s burdens.

Mahalo,
Bob
