COMMUNICATION: OVERVIEW

Be sure to visit the Tech Stuff page for links to some popular online services that can enhance your church communications.

Websites
A church website is a vital tool to communicate and disseminate information not only to members, but to the general public.  Here in Hawai'i, many of our churches are in busy vacation destination sites, and visiting Episcopalians rely on the internet to track down a church they can attend while in the islands.  But today's websites are much more than just a place to read about service times and events-- it's a place where live feeds, blogs, videos, fundraising and event registrations can take place.  If you need help creating a website or updating your current site, contact Sybil Nishioka, Diocesan Communications Specialist. We recommend using Weebly which makes putting together a great website quick and easy, and is a covered cost for mission churches.

Church News and the News of the Diocese
Sharing the news of your church with members and the wider community is a sure way to keep people informed, feeling connected, and can inspire people to get more involved.  Online newsletters, whether weekly or monthly, are cost-effective and easily shared, spreading the word quickly and easily.  Some churches still snail-mail paper copies, especially if recipients do not have access to the internet or are not technologically connected, but more and more churches are opting for online news and snail-mailing on request.

In 2019, the Diocese of Hawai'i unveiled a new news website dedicated to keeping you informed and up-to-date on the latest happenings both in the Diocese and broader Episcopal Church.

Social Media
There is no denying that social media outlets have become the quickest format for "getting the word out", and many churches in the Diocese are on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.  Be sure to like and follow the Diocesan accounts!

Sunday Bulletins
Forward Movement has a great app – Venite – for liturgical prayer and even preparing worship bulletins (material can be transferred to a Word document). To learn more and download this helpful application, visit their website HERE.
