CONVENTION 56 THEME:

Theme Scripture Verse
"You are all God’s children through faith in Christ Jesus. All of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26-28 Collect of the Day
Gracious Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church. Fill it with all truth, in all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in anything it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of Jesus Christ your Son our Savior, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen. |
Ezekiel 34:1-6, 20-22
The word of the Lord came to me: Mortal, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them: To the shepherds—thus says the Lord God: Woe, you shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat; you clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatted calves, but you do not feed the sheep. You have not strengthened the weak; you have not healed the sick; you have not bound up the injured; you have not brought back the strays; you have not sought the lost, but with force and harshness you have ruled them. So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and scattered they became food for all the wild animals. My sheep were scattered; they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill; my sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with no one to search or seek for them…. Therefore, thus says the Lord God to them: I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. Because you pushed with flank and shoulder and butted at all the weak animals with your horns until you scattered them far and wide, I will save my flock, and they shall no longer be ravaged, and I will judge between sheep and sheep. Psalm 12:1-7
1 Help me, Lord, for there is no godly one left; * the faithful have vanished from among us. 2 Everyone speaks falsely with his neighbor; * with a smooth tongue they speak from a double heart. 3 Oh, that the Lord would cut off all smooth tongues, * and close the lips that utter proud boasts! 4 Those who say, "With our tongue will we prevail; * our lips are our own; who is lord over us?" 5 "Because the needy are oppressed, and the poor cry out in misery, * I will rise up," says the Lord, "and give them the help they long for." 6 The words of the Lord are pure words, * like silver refined from ore and purified seven times in the fire. 7 O Lord, watch over us * and save us from this generation for ever. |
Galatians 3:23-29
Now before faith came, we were imprisoned and guarded under the law until faith would be revealed. Therefore the law was our disciplinarian until Christ came, so that we might be reckoned as righteous by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer subject to a disciplinarian, for in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek; there is no longer slave or free; there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise. Matthew 21:12-16
Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it a den of robbers.” The blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he cured them. But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the amazing things that he did and heard the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became angry and said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘Out of the mouths of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise for yourself’?” |
The Diocese is thrilled to welcome the Right Reverend Diana Akiyama, Bishop of Western Oregon, as our Convention Chaplain. It is a homecoming of sorts having served as the Vicar of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church on the Big Island, from 2015, before being called to Oregon in 2020.
Bishop Akiyama's presence at this year's Convention is especially meaningful as we celebrate women in ministry. She was the first Japanese-American woman ordained to the priesthood in The Episcopal Church in 1989, and again made history as the first Japanese-American woman Bishop. She also served as the Dean of Waiolaihui'ia, the Diocese's formation program, and a number of governance committees and Diocesan ministries. Her contributions to the Diocese have been immeasurable. When she was consecrated in January 2021, in the midst of COVID, we still celebrated alongside her from afar! (See: Chronicle, September 2020; Chronicle, February 9, 2021, and February 23, 2021). Aloha & welcome back Bishop Diana Akiyama!
