Aloha!

As we are thrust into a time of social distancing, isolation, and stay-at-home mandates, communicating effectively means getting a handle on the internet, and exploring different avenues.  We are thrilled that so many clergy have embraced the challenge and are trying out live online worship sessions, virtual study classes, and meeting with their lay leaders through Zoom and Facebook Live.

The Communications Design Team invites all clergy and lay leaders to share your tips and ideas for a better online experience, whether itʻs with Facebook Live, Zoom, YouTube, or any other platform you are finding success with.

Please share in the comments.  We are planning to create a collective "Tip" sheet for everyone to use.  We have a running tip column next to this blog feed so you can see whatʻs already been shared, or to expand on any suggestion.

Please share your input by Tuesday, March 31, 2020.  Thatʻll give you another Sunday service to experiment with, and weʻll get a tip sheet out to you as soon as possible!

Mahalo,
Your Communications Design Team

Shared Tips:

ZOOM
  • When using the video feed, make sure your camera is at the best angle so that your head is not cut off or we are not looking up your nose!
  • Mute yourself until you need to say something.
FACEBOOK LIVE
  • Make sure to have your camera in the horizontal position BEFORE you go live OR you might be broadcasting sideways!

If more than one person is involved with the video, please remember to keep the 6' social distancing.

Thanks Rae! It is noted that some groups are using family members from the same household so that may not apply to them.

On another note, my neighbor down the road, who has a small child, stopped by to check on me while keeping a good distance down the yard... she shared that until this passes, she is taking the precaution that EVERYONE is a potential carrier. (Good advice.) She also formed a neighborhood text group after the 2018 flood, and now we keep informed and connected all the time. Lately, we let each other know when someone is going to the market and can pick up supplies for anyone. We are instructed to have cash ready and placed outside the door, and the bag is left there.

Lots of creative ways to keep our ʻohana (especially our kupuna) feeling connected and cared for.

What's App is a good way to keep friends in touch with one another. Great for instant group chat.
