In 2019, a diocesan Youth Design Team was formed with the responsibility of reshaping youth ministry in the Diocese, an area that many churches have been struggling with. Overseeing this process is the staff at Camp Mokule'ia under Executive Director Darrell Whitaker, with financial support from the Diocese. They enlisted the services of Ministry Architects, an organization located in Nashville, TN, that has helped over 900 churches build sustainable youth ministries throughout the world. Lead consultants Sara Bailey and David Carroll took on this challenge, along with the Youth Design Team that consists of camp staff, clergy, and lay leaders from around the Diocese. Together, they worked closely to develop and implement a plan to invigorate and inspire our youth to become faithful active leaders for the Way of Love in the Diocese and in communities beyond.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Youth Ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai`i is to mālama (care for) middle and high school youth by inspiring, nourishing, and empowering them as they grow more fully in Christ and community
Our Prayer:
God of all generations, you see your children growing up in an unsteady and confusing world: Strengthen and uphold the youth ministry of the Diocese of Hawai‘i. Be present in the lives of the youth and the youth leaders throughout our congregations and ministries. Give us your vision for a youth community knit together as one: inspired, nourished, and empowered by your grace and truth. Fill us with your abiding love and aloha, and guide our Diocese as we walk as one ʻOhana, all generations together, and for all generations to come. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
