2024 ANNUAL CHRISM MASS & CHURCHBIZ+ (Plus)
(Formerly Spring Training)

Saturday, March 23, 2024
The Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu

Registration is now open for our annual Chrism Mass & ChurchBIZ+ Conference (formerly Spring Training), with newly added creative and meditative workshops!

The theme for this event is "Lessons Learned" as we take a look at the impact recent catastrophies have had on our churches in the Diocese. Both COVID and the 2023 Maui wildfires have presented many challenges that we continue to learn from. Along with the administrative and "business" side of church topics, there will be several workshops focused on prayer and spiritual nurturing.  There will also be afternoon tours of The Cathedral's bell tower.

The day will begin at 9:00 AM with the Chrism Mass and Eucharist, that will include the Renewal of Clergy Vows and Renewal of Baptismal Vows.  ChurchBiz will commence immediately following the Chrism Mass,   Cost is only $20 and includes lunch.

Free child care and scholarships are available. Be sure to check the applicable boxes on the registration form.

DISCOVERING THE LABYRINTH (Session 1 - Labyrinth remains open all day)
Certified Labyrinth Facilitator Kristin Keyes will introduce you to walking a labyrinth. She invites you to explore how this journey can offer a space to become quiet and encounter God. You will also discover how people are using labyrinths to guide healing, deepen self-knowledge, find clarity, and empower creativity. You will be invited to walk a finger labyrinth during the session and to walk a canvas labyrinth that will be set up near our meeting spaces during the day.

THE SPIRIT AND ART OF PRAYER BEADS (Session 2 & 3)
Join Kim Garner as she shares the creative process of making prayer beads. Prayer beads are not a rosary – but they can be used in much the same way. A larger bead can be used for invocation (asking for a prayer to be heard) the smaller beads are for more specific prayers. Larger beads are also for asking forgiveness – and the last bead is for giving thanks. Praying your beads can also be used meditatively with gentle breath control – very calming! The goal is for the user to derive meaningful value from the experience.

PRAYING IN COLOR (Session 3)

In this workshop, Kristin Keyes focuses on using colors (pens, crayons, markers) and paper to make our prayers to God. Why would one want to “draw” prayers? 1) You want to pray but words escape you;  2) You have trouble sitting still and staying focused;  3) Your body wants to be part of your prayer;  4) You want to just spend time with God but don’t know how;   5) You want to be a listener in prayer but your mind wanders and your body complains; 6) You want a visual, concrete way to pray; 7) You want a NEW way to pray.  After a brief introduction to praying in color, you will be invited to doodle your intercessary prayers.
