PLENARY PRESENTATIONS:

PLENARY 1: The Right Rev. Carol Gallagher
We welcome back to the Diocese Bishop Carol Gallagher, LIVE via Zoom.  Bishop Carol has a long association with the Diocese as a teacher and preacher.  Bishop Bob credits her with assisting him in establishing the local formation program (now named “Waiolaihuiʻia Center for Ministry”), and focusing on the calling of Kānaka Maoli and other local clergy.  Bishop Carol has extensive experience as a bishop having served in the Dioceses of Southern Virginia, Newark, North Dakota, Montana, and Massachusetts (see Q&A: Bishop Carol Gallagher looks back on 35 years of service in dioceses across the church).  For much of her time in the House of Bishops, she was only one of two active indigenous Bishops.  Much of her ministry has focused on supporting churches in indigenous communities throughout the Episcopal Church.  Now retired, she comes to us to share her wisdom – naʻauao – about discernment and the calling of a bishop in our times.  She is truly a “Kūpuna Pīhopa” of the Episcopal Church.

PLENARY 2: The Rev. Anne Kitch
Join the Rev. Anne Kitch, the consultant from the Presiding Bishop's Office, who has been guiding the Diocese during the search for a new bishop. She will conduct a session on anti-bias training that opens hearts to true discernment of God's will, and helps us recognize the biases we may be carrying and holding onto. It is a helpful discernment process that all can use in their everyday lives.

OPTIONAL POST-EVENT:
Hawai'i Theater for Youth Play, P
ā Ka Makani
By Annie Lokomaika‘i Lipscomb, Marques Hanalei Marzan, and Annie Cusick Wood
The Hawai'i Theater for Youth (HTY) has graciously offered free admission for Spring Training attendees to their play Pā Ka Makani. Back by popular demand, this show returns to the HTY stage from a tour of Italy and Portugal. Featuring hula, oli and Hawaiian language and culture, the story follows a young woman’s journey to find her place within her culture. What can the breezes of the islands teach her about her own voice and her relationship to her beloved Tutu?
REGARDING INTERISLAND TRAVEL:
Picture
The Diocese will cover air travel expenses for two authorized lay persons and all canonically resident clergy from each neighbor island congregation and Guam.  Please click HERE for travel procedures.

For all others, if your church will be paying for your interisland airfare, you can arrange for your flight through the Diocesan Travel Coordinator and we will invoice your church.  If your church will not be paying for your airfare, please make your own arrangements.

Contact the Diocesan Travel Coordinator HERE to submit an interisland Air Travel Request. Clergy authorizing a lay person for their congregation shall submit the air travel request  together with their own.
