DAUGHTERS OF THE KING: QUIET DAY
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2014
Women of all ages are invited to a Quiet Day with the Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK) at St. Anthony’s Retreat Center, 3351 Kalihi Street, Honolulu on Saturday, February 1, 2014, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This single day retreat is open to all women interested in deepening their spiritual life. Prayer is the foundation upon which the DOK respond to God in service to others. As DOK we welcome you to join us for spiritual refreshment and growth at this Quiet Day. We understand we can do more than pray after we have prayed, but we cannot do more until we have prayed.
The DOK is an Order for women of the Episcopal Church and churches with the historic Episcopate, organized in 1885. Every Daughter pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and personal evangelism, dedicated to the extension of Christ’s kingdom and to the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish. We are lay and ordained, young and old, rich and poor, executives and housewives, generous and strong…in short, ordinary women who are enabled by God’s grace to do His work. Chapters are organized within parishes, missions and institutions with the consent of the priest, chaplain or Bishop.
The Quiet Day begins with registration at Saint Damien’s House. From 7:00 – 7:30 AM light refreshments will be served. The Right Reverend Robert Fitzpatrick will join us at 8:00 AM to preside at the Eucharist. During the service there will be the Institution of a Chapter and Presentation of a Charter as well as a short service for those Beginning Preparation for Membership. Starting at 9:45 AM there will be readings to guide our quiet meditations and prayer. At noon we will gather for fellowship and ask that everyone bring their own bag lunch. After lunch Kala Holden will lead the group in a Taize song and quiet participatory prayer, designed to achieve a contemplative mood.
After the last meditation of the day there will be a short Q and A about the up-coming diocesan-wide study and three month training period for membership in the DOK extending through February, March and April. We will discuss the reaffirmation of promises made at confirmation and the Rule of Life incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service that every Daughter undertakes. Quiet Day will be complete by 3:00 PM. You will be welcome to remain on the grounds until 4:00 PM.
INSTRUCTIONS
