Sharing Our Strengths
St. George's, St. Mary's, St. Nicholas and St. Timothy's, have joined forces to present a day of fellowship, training and worship.
"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully." Romans 12:4-8 Our clergy cannot do it all: prophesy, serve, teach, encourage, give, lead and show mercy. We are ALL called, as Disciples of Christ, to proclaim the gospel, to love God with our whole hearts, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Just as the prophets told God they were not worthy to be a prophet, many of us feel inadequate to be leaders of our congregations. However, despite their misgivings, the prophets, "stepped up to the plate", to proclaim the word of God. So must we step forward to help our clergy lead our congregations. Join us Saturday, June 11, at St. George's, as we come together to share our gifts and learn how best to use them. We will have mini courses on how to lead youth and young adult programs, empowerment for ministries and mandatory Diocesan training. The cost will be $15 (meals included). We will worship together, attend training workshops, and share experiences and practical information. You will have opportunities to ask questions, trade information, and even exchange resources with your counterparts from sister churches. You wlil also have time to put into practice the things you learn at the workshop. Bring your laptop and check out the websites suggested, design forms/letter/etc., that you can take with you and use the very next day at your church. God is the center of our lives, the Bible is our guide, but sometimes, don't you pray for some concrete tools you can use to ge the job done? We hope to feed your body (through fellowship meals), your mind (through the workshops) and your spirit (through prayer and worship). "Three keys to more abundant living: caring about others, daring for others, sharing with others." William Arthur Ward For a complete listing of the workshops and/or to register for this event, visit the event website by clicking on the "Register to Attend" link below. You will need to sign up, which will create an account. Once you sign up, you will have an easier time registering for our future events. For more information, email Rae Costa.
