Convention XLIII spotlight
The following is from the announcement letter by Bishop Bob Fitzpatrick, dated June 14, 2011:
Aloha my Sisters and Brothers in Christ: In keeping with the Constitution and Canons of our Diocese, I write to inform all members of the Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i that the business meeting of the 43rd Annual Meeting will be held in the Tenney Theatre of the Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu, on Saturday, October 29th, 2011. The opening Eucharist will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011, in the Cathedral. On Saturday, registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. The business meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. A box lunch will be provided following noonday prayers on Saturday. The plan is to adjourn by 4:00 p.m. The theme of this year's Annual Meeting will be "Born of Water, Born of Spirit". This is to highlight the conference of the same name that takes place before the Convention Eucharist during the day on Friday, October 28. This conference will be Disciple's Journey 2011 (DJ11) and the detailed schedule will be published in the near future. Registration for DJ11 will be separate from that of the Convention. My hope for the Annual Meeting and for DJ11, I hope all clergy and lay delegates will read Born of Water, Born of Spirit: Supporting the Ministry of the Baptized in Small Congregations by Sheryl A Kujawa-Holbrook and Fredrica Harris Thompsett (Alban Institute, 2010, ISBN# 978-1-56699-400-2 and Alban No. AL400). This book can be ordered directly from the Alban Institute (http://www.alban.org/bookdetails.aspx?id=8544). As has been the practice for years, all Convention materials and announcements will be posted on our diocesan website, www.episcopalhawaii.org, (click on the "Diocesan XLIII" tab). Please be mindful of your fellow delegates and assist those from your congregation without access to a computer. We will have the business of our Diocese to tend: the budget, reports, elections and resolutions. Please prepare with care and prayer. It is through our work that we will shape the mission and ministry of our Diocese. As you read the material and discuss it with others at the pre-Convention meetings, you are engaging God's mission. You are putting into place the structures that can make Christ's Body, the Church, an active and vital force in the world. This is a very important ministry to our common life. Thank you for your preparation for the meeting and your service to the Church. Aloha ma o Isa Kristo, ko makou Haku.
