Clergy and Vestry Workshop
The Rev. Dennis Maynard, a long-time parish priest and the author of Those Episkopols, will be leading a FREE workshop for clergy and parish leaders on Saturday, February 12, from 9:30 to 4:00 at St. Clement's, 1515 Wilder Ave., Honolulu (Makiki). Dennis will present a program in four sections of an hour and a quarter each:
1. The Episcopal Church - A Mixed Blessing
2. Parish Leadership Styles That May Conflict
3. Your Parish System - A Health Checkup
4. Maintaining a Healthy Parish System
He strongly encourages as many vestries and bishop’s committees as possible to attend. The program might be especially good for the laity in those congregations that are in transition, but it will benefit all as we continue to work toward developing healthy faith communities.
In addition, Dennis’s books will be on sale, so bring some cash or a checkbook if you’d like to buy a few. In addition to Those Episkopols, he is the author of the Magnolia series of novels that take place in a southern parish, Forgive and Get Your Life Back, and When Sheep Attack. Not only are they good for individual edification, but they’d make great material for a book study on parish life and dynamics.
Registration is free, and lunch will be on your own.
Because this workshop came up suddenly, airfare for Neighbor Island attendees was not planned for in the diocesan budget, However, the Ministry Development budget can pay for 8 Neighbor Island airfares. People need to email Liz Beasley and copy Leanne Williams, our travel agent, with their full name as on their I.D., their birthdate, what airport they would be flying out of, and what times they wish to fly, if they have a preference. Canon Beasley will then "reply all" giving authorization. The first 8 get approved. After that, she will email back saying that she cannot take any more.
