St. Michael's to Host Two Huge Events

JAZZ & CONGREGATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on Kaua'i is preparing for two huge events in February that have drawn national recognition.  Now in its 6th year, the All Angels Jazz Festival will take place on February 3 - 5, 2012, featuring a wide variety of jazz musicians and drawing nearly 1,000 Episcopalians and music lovers from around the world.  But the Jazz Festival is just the beginning of a week-long celebration of creative liturgy and congregational development.  The Rev. Bill Miller will be conducting a workshop entitled Net: How Real Churches Really Grow, based on Miller's forthcoming book by the same name.  This event will take place from February 7 - 9, 2012. COMMUNITY WORSHIP SERVICE

imageSaint Elizabeth Episcopal Church, in partnership with many Christian denominational churches, is hosting an ecumenical service that honors the life and works of civil rights leader, Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. The service will begin with Gospel praise at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Community Communion Worship Service at 6:30 p.m.  Refreshments will follow.  Everyone is invited to attend this worship service.  For more information, please click HERE.

Youth Presence at General Convention 2012

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS/NOMINATIONS IS JANUARY 15, 2012
imageA total of eighteen positions, representing two from each Province of the Episcopal Church, are opened to youth to participate in the 77th General Convention, scheduled for July 2012, in Indianapolis, Indiana.   Bronwyn Clark Skov, Episcopal Church Officer for Youth Ministries, addressed both the importance and the honor of these positions.  "The General Convention Official Youth Presence was established by an initial resolution in 1982," she explained.  "The Official Youth Presence members have seat and voice on the floor of the House of Deputies during the legislative sessions and that is an exciting prospect for the youth of our church."

UTO Grant Application Deadline

DEADLINE FOR DIOCESE OF HAWAI'I IS DECEMBER 16

Applications are now being accepted for the United Thank Offering (UTO) Grants.  This is your opportunity to apply for a UTO Grant for your ministry.  Applications must be received in the Office of the Bishop by Friday, December 16, 2011, at 5:00 p.m., to be considered for the Bishop's endorsement, which is a requirement for requests.  To read more about the types of projects being funded and how to apply, click HERE.

ECW Meeting with Janine LeGrand

The Episcopal Church Women will be holding their next meeting on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2062 S. King Street, in Honolulu.  The gathering will feature guest speaker Janine LeGrand, a missionary in Uganda, who is back home in Hawai'i until December.  For more information, contact Louise Aloy.

Rev. Russell is the author of Hooker's Blueprint, that takes the "Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity", a very important and difficult piece of theological text of Anglicanism by Richard Hooker, and extracts and summarizes the key ideas into an understandable format.

FACE Equity Summit

The Faith Action Community Equity (FACE) Equity Summit and Interfatih Service event will be taking place Saturday, November 5 and Monday, November 7, respectively.  Highly commended by Bishop Fitzpatrick, the FACE Equity Summit features workshops with local and national experts dealing with pressing issues in our communities.  It is an all day event taking place at the University of Hawai'i Campus Center on November 5.  The FACE Interfaith Service takes place Monday evening, November 7, at St. Augustine's By-the-Sea Catholic Church in Waikiki.  For more information, click HERE.  To go directly to the FACE website, click on their logo shown at top.

Transforming Stewardship in Your Parish

imageThe Rev. Laurel Johnston, the national Program Officer for Stewardship, will be leading a workshop on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Honolulu, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Rev. Johnston will demonstrate how stewardship is central to a Christian life and how to build on this core understanding to develop high-commitment congregations.  Participants will learn the best practices that infuse the spirituality of stewardship into the life of the parish.

Episcopal Youth Event: 2011

The 2011 Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) is coming up on June 22 - 26, at Bethel University in Minnesota.  Twenty-four youth and six chaperones  will be representing the Diocese of Hawai'i at this triannual event, and will head north for the mission portion of their trip at the Mary Brown Environmental Learning Center through June 30.  Bishop Bob Fitzpatrick will also be at the conference.  The following Collect for Episcopal Youth Event 2011, was composed by members of the Worship Team, for congregations to use as a method to offer prayers for EYE planners, registrants, bishops, and all involved in this sacred gathering of our church's youth.

imageSunday, March 13, 2011 is the suggested date for the spring in-gathering of donations to the United Thank Offering (UTO).

UTO donations are collected throughout The Episcopal Church and then go to fund special projects through UTO grants.  The UTO addresses compelling human need through grants to projects that alleviate poverty, both domestically and internationally, within the Anglican provinces, dioceses, and companion dioceses.
