St. Michael's to Host Two Huge Events

JAZZ & CONGREGATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Beginning February 2012

St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church on Kaua'i is preparing for two huge events in February that have drawn national recognition. Now in its 6th year, the All Angels Jazz Festival will take place on February 3 - 5, 2012, featuring a wide variety of jazz musicians and drawing nearly 1,000 Episcopalians and music lovers from around the world. But the Jazz Festival is just the beginning of a week-long celebration of creative liturgy and congregational development. The Rev. Bill Miller will be conducting a workshop entitled Net: How Real Churches Really Grow, based on Miller's forthcoming book by the same name. This event will take place from February 7 - 9, 2012. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

COMMUNITY WORSHIP SERVICE
Monday, January 16, 2012

Saint Elizabeth Episcopal Church, in partnership with many Christian denominational churches, is hosting an ecumenical service that honors the life and works of civil rights leader, Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. The service will begin with Gospel praise at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Community Communion Worship Service at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow. Youth Presence at General Convention 2012

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS/NOMINATIONS IS JANUARY 15, 2012

A total of eighteen positions, representing two from each Province of the Episcopal Church, are opened to youth to participate in the 77th General Convention, scheduled for July 2012, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bronwyn Clark Skov, Episcopal Church Officer for Youth Ministries, addressed both the importance and the honor of these positions. "The General Convention Official Youth Presence was established by an initial resolution in 1982," she explained. "The Official Youth Presence members have seat and voice on the floor of the House of Deputies during the legislative sessions and that is an exciting prospect for the youth of our church."

UTO Grant Application Deadline

DEADLINE FOR DIOCESE OF HAWAI'I IS DECEMBER 16

Applications are now being accepted for the United Thank Offering (UTO) Grants. This is your opportunity to apply for a UTO Grant for your ministry. Applications must be received in the Office of the Bishop by Friday, December 16, 2011, at 5:00 p.m., to be considered for the Bishop's endorsement, which is a requirement for requests. ECW Meeting with Janine LeGrand

The Episcopal Church Women will be holding their next meeting on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 2062 S. King Street, in Honolulu. The gathering will feature guest speaker Janine LeGrand, a missionary in Uganda, who is back home in Hawai'i until December. For more information, contact Louise Aloy.

Rev. Russell is the author of Hooker's Blueprint, that takes the "Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity", a very important and difficult piece of theological text of Anglicanism by Richard Hooker, and extracts and summarizes the key ideas into an understandable format.

FACE Equity Summit

The Faith Action Community Equity (FACE) Equity Summit and Interfatih Service event will be taking place Saturday, November 5 and Monday, November 7, respectively. Highly commended by Bishop Fitzpatrick, the FACE Equity Summit features workshops with local and national experts dealing with pressing issues in our communities. It is an all day event taking place at the University of Hawai'i Campus Center on November 5. The FACE Interfaith Service takes place Monday evening, November 7, at St. Augustine's By-the-Sea Catholic Church in Waikiki. For more information, click HERE. Transforming Stewardship in Your Parish

The Rev. Laurel Johnston, the national Program Officer for Stewardship, will be leading a workshop on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at St. Andrew's Cathedral, Honolulu, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Rev. Johnston will demonstrate how stewardship is central to a Christian life and how to build on this core understanding to develop high-commitment congregations. Participants will learn the best practices that infuse the spirituality of stewardship into the life of the parish.

Presbyter's Day: A meeting of the priests of the Diocese of Hawai'i

The semiannual meeting of the priests of the Diocese will be taking place on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Honolulu, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The program will be on communication, led by Dr. Kahu Kaleo Patterson, President of the Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center. AHAHUI MAKANA HO'OLINA O KA KO'IKE ULU:

Have you remembered an Episcopal ministry (church, program etc.) in your estate plans? If so, you are a member of the Diocese's Ho'ike Ulu Legacy Society. Their first event of the year takes place on Maui, Saturday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m.

Episcopal Youth Event: 2011

The 2011 Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) is coming up on June 22 - 26, at Bethel University in Minnesota. Twenty-four youth and six chaperones will be representing the Diocese of Hawai'i at this triannual event, and will head north for the mission portion of their trip at the Mary Brown Environmental Learning Center through June 30. Bishop Bob Fitzpatrick will also be at the conference. The following Collect for Episcopal Youth Event 2011, was composed by members of the Worship Team, for congregations to use as a method to offer prayers for EYE planners, registrants, bishops, and all involved in this sacred gathering of our church's youth.

10th Anniversary Celebration of Full Communion:

The leaders of the Episcopal Church, the Anglican Church of Canada, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America have issued a Pastoral Letter for the May 1 celebration marking the 10th Anniversary of full communion.

"We look forward to the development of fuller relationships that will lead to a common mission, ministry, and witness in the world."

Presiding Bishop's 2011 Easter Message

Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori says in her 2011 Easter Message, "We give thanks for the Resurrection, and we become part of Jesus' ongoing work, as we become aware of its power in our own lives."

Chrism Mass & Theology Day

The annual Chrism Mass and Theology Continuing Education Day for clergy and those in the ordination process, will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Parish of St. Clement in Honolulu.

The Rev. Dr. Wil Gafney will be the speaker of the Day.

ERD - Japan Earthquake Response Fund

Episcopal Relief & Development is supporting the rescue and relief efforts of the Nippon Sei Ko Kei (NSKK; the Anglican-Episcopal church in Japan) following the 8.9 magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th.

UTO In-Gathering Spring 2011

Sunday, March 13, 2011 is the suggested date for the spring in-gathering of donations to the United Thank Offering (UTO).

UTO donations are collected throughout The Episcopal Church and then go to fund special projects through UTO grants. The UTO addresses compelling human need through grants to projects that alleviate poverty, both domestically and internationally, within the Anglican provinces, dioceses, and companion dioceses.

On March 5th, 2011, Safeguarding God's Children Trainings will be taking place on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.

Epiphany Church, 1041 Tenth Ave., Honolulu (Kaimuki), will hold a Sacred Jazz weekend on Saturday and Sunday, February 19 and 20.

Clergy and Vestry Workshop

The Rev. Dennis Maynard, a long-time parish priest and the author of Those Episkopols, will be leading a FREE workshop for clergy and parish leaders on Saturday, February 12, from 9:30 to 4:00 at St. Clement's, 1515 Wilder Ave., Honolulu (Makiki).

The Rev. Jane Tomaine will present the Peggy Kai Memorial Lecture on Friday, January 21, on "Benedictine Spirituality for the Frazzled."

The Annual Meeting of the Diocesan Convention met on Saturday, October 30, with a Leadership Training Day on Friday, October 29.

The day before the annual meeting of the Convention, a Leadership Training Day will be held at St. Andrew's Cathedral, with a number of practical workshops for church leaders.

One diocesan-required training, plus information on two programs for children or youth, are being sponsored by the Church of the Epiphany and the Parish of St. Clement.

God Camp is held at Camp Mokule'ia on Oahu's North Shore from July 15�22. Those in 4th through 8th grade are invited to come and enjoy yourself and learn about God in unexpected ways while spending time with old and new friends on the beach! Those in 9th through 12 grade are welcome to apply to be Leaders in Training.

The annual Rummage Sale at the Cathedral of St. Andrew, held the weekend of June 25-27, earned over $11,300.
