Peggy Kai Lecture with Bishop Stephen Charleston

Bishop Stephen Charleston will present the Margaret “Peggy” Kai Memorial Lecture on Monday, September 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in the Tenney Theatre. A reception and questions will be held in the Von Holt Room after the lecture.

Bishop Steven Charleston, Interim Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral in Oklahoma City, is widely recognized as a leading proponent for justice issues and the environment, and for spiritual renewal in the church in both the United States and Canada. Bishop Charleston’s vocation in the church has been extensive and varied. He was the national staff officer for Native American ministries in the Episcopal Church; the Director of the Dakota Leadership Program; professor at Luther-Northwestern Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota; the Bishop of Alaska; Chaplain of Trinity College in Hartford; Assistant Bishop of Connecticut; the President and Dean of the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts; and the Provost of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco.

Bishop Steven Charleston was born and raised in Oklahoma, a citizen of the Choctaw Nation. He has a long history of service in the Christian Native American community. Both his grandfather and great-grandfather were ordained ministers of the Presbyterian Church, serving among the Choctaw People in rural Oklahoma.
