Letter from Secretary of the Convention
Memo to: Members of the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Diocesan Convention
From: Nancy Rowe, Secretary of the Convention
Subject: Annual Meeting Information
Date: June 30, 2010
Greetings in the Name of Christ!
Thank you for your leadership and service to the Diocese as a delegate to the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Diocesan Convention.
The 42nd Annual Meeting will be held Saturday October 30, 2010 when we will conduct the normal business of the diocese. As you read in the Bishop’s letter, the Annual Meeting itself will be one day as it was in 2009 but it will be preceded on Friday, October 29, 2010 by a Leadership Training Day offering opportunities for all diocesan leaders to enhance our abilities and knowledge. Delegate training will also take place on Friday. All activities will take place at the Cathedral of St. Andrew.
This mailing, the only convention packet you will receive by mail, contains the Call to Meeting from Bishop Fitzpatrick, Delegate Information, Schedules, Individual and Congregational Registration Forms, Resolutions Information, Nominations Information, Shared Travel Information, and the Necrology and Baptism Information.
The information in this mailing, as well as all future Annual Meeting materials will be provided through the Diocesan Website, www.episcopalhawaii.org, at the Diocesan Convention 2010 link. Materials will be published as they become available; please check for updates regularly. If you do not have access to the internet, please ask your church office to print out the information for you. Delegates will also receive special editions of the diocesan e-news.
The next major posting of Annual Meeting information will be August 10th when the 2011-2013 Draft budgets are posted on the website for Convention Delegates, Alternates and Clergy. Preconvention meetings for discussion of the draft budgets and other important convention materials will be scheduled during the week of August 22nd.
Whether you are attending the Annual Meeting for the first time or you have been a frequent delegate, I commend to you the article entitled, “So, you’ve been elected as a delegate to the Convention…” Your thorough preparation for the convention will make it a more meaningful experience. Please be well informed on all of the issues to come before the Annual Meeting.
If you are no longer a delegate representing your congregation, please forward this information to your successor or return it to your church office.
Please pray regularly for our opportunity to be together at the Annual Meeting and for our diocese.
Vision for Our Diocese: All Episcopalians in Hawai`i shall work together to create a Church filled with visible and spirit-driven Christians—Christians who are eager to share our Episcopal tradition and faith, and traditional Hawaiian spiritual values, with those who have not yet found a spiritual anchor in their lives.
Prayer for a Church Convention: Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
